IFZA, the International Free Zone Authority, has become one of the most talked-about free zones in Dubai.
- The pricing is aggressive
- The setup process is fast
- The activity list is enormous.
For founders researching their options online, IFZA appears on nearly every shortlist.
Most of what's written about IFZA focuses on the AED 12,900 starting price. However, that number is the licence fee for a zero-visa package — no visa, no establishment card, no Emirates ID. The actual cost of getting a functioning business with a visa in hand is higher, and knowing the full picture before you commit is the difference between a smooth setup and an unexpected bill later.
What IFZA Costs
IFZA structures pricing in packages based on visa count. Here's how each tier breaks down:
Zero-visa package: AED 12,900 per year. Includes the trade licence, flexi-desk access at Dubai Silicon Oasis, and a registered business address. No visa, no establishment card. This is the option for non-residents who need a UAE entity for invoicing or banking but don't plan to live in the UAE.
One-visa package: AED 14,900 per year. Same as above plus one residence visa allocation.
Three-visa package: AED 19,900 per year.
Six-visa package: AED 26,900 per year.
Those are the package prices. On top of each, budget for:
- Establishment card: AED 2,000 to AED 2,500 (one-time, required before visa processing)
- Visa processing per person: AED 3,800 to AED 4,800 (entry permit, medical, Emirates ID, stamping)
- Health insurance per person: AED 600 to AED 2,500 per year (mandatory)
Realistic first-year totals:
- Zero visa (licence only): AED 12,900
- One visa (licence + visa processed): AED 20,700 to AED 22,000
- Three visas (licence + all visas processed): AED 32,000 to AED 36,000
- Six visas: AED 47,000 to AED 56,000
These numbers are mid-range for Dubai. Cheaper than DMCC (AED 35,000–55,000 for 1 visa), comparable to DSO, and more expensive than Northern Emirates zones like SHAMS (AED 18,000–24,000) or Ajman (AED 14,000–18,000). The premium you're paying is for a Dubai address. Whether that's worth AED 5,000 to AED 10,000 more per year depends on your business.
The Renewal Catch
One thing most IFZA guides skip: the year-two renewal process includes a requirement to submit audited or reviewed financial statements. This isn't unique to IFZA, but it adds a cost that many founders don't anticipate. Preparing a financial statement through an approved auditor typically costs AED 3,000 to AED 6,000 depending on complexity.
Factor this into your year-two budget. It's not optional, and discovering it at renewal time creates unnecessary pressure.
IFZA's Regulatory Structure
IFZA operates under a concession agreement with the Dubai Silicon Oasis Authority (DSOA), which is itself a government-owned technology park authority under DIEZ (Dubai Integrated Economic Zones Authority). IFZA was originally established in Fujairah before relocating its operations to Dubai.
This matters for two reasons.
- Your licence and company registration are legitimate Dubai documents. There's no ambiguity about your legal jurisdiction — you're a Dubai-based free zone entity.
- The Fujairah regulatory origin occasionally surfaces during bank account applications. Some bank compliance teams classify IFZA differently from zones like DMCC or DWTC that have longer histories under their own Dubai-based authorities.
Business Activities
IFZA supports over 1,500 approved business activities across services, trading, consulting, IT, e-commerce, media, education, healthcare, and more.
You can register up to three activities under a single licence at no additional charge.
At DMCC, each additional activity beyond the first costs AED 7,500. At IFZA, you get three included. For businesses that span multiple activities — a marketing consultancy that also provides training services, or a trading company that also offers installation — this saves real money.
What IFZA handles well:
- Professional services (consulting, marketing, IT, design)
- E-commerce and online retail
- General trading (import/export)
- Media, content, and creative services
- Education, training, and coaching
- Technology and software development
What IFZA doesn't handle well:
- Commodity-specific trading (gold, diamonds, coffee) — DMCC has specialist platforms for this
- Crypto and virtual asset businesses — DMCC's Crypto Centre is purpose-built; IFZA doesn't offer equivalent infrastructure
- Regulated financial services — DIFC or ADGM required
- Heavy manufacturing — limited industrial facilities at DSO compared to zones like RAKEZ or Ajman
The Setup Process
IFZA is a digital-first zone. The majority of the setup can be completed remotely, which makes it popular with international founders who want to incorporate before travelling to the UAE.
Step 1: Choose your activity and package. Select up to three business activities from IFZA's list and pick the visa tier that matches your needs. If you're not sure which activity codes fit, talk to us — activity selection affects licence cost, what you can legally do, and how banks evaluate your application.
Step 2: Reserve your trade name. IFZA follows standard UAE naming rules. Approval typically comes within 1 to 2 business days.
Step 3: Submit documents. Passport copy, photo, brief business description, and shareholder details. Applications can be submitted entirely online through the IFZA portal or through a registered agent.
Step 4: Initial approval. IFZA issues initial approval within 24 to 48 hours of clean document submission. This is fast — noticeably faster than most zones.
Step 5: Payment and licence issuance. Once payment is confirmed, the trade licence is issued in 3 to 5 business days.
Step 6: Visa processing (if applicable). Establishment card, then entry permit or status change, then medical, Emirates ID, and visa stamping. You must be physically in the UAE for the medical test and biometrics. Total visa processing: 2 to 4 weeks.
Total timeline from application to visa in hand: 3 to 5 weeks. Licence-only (no visa): as fast as 5 working days.
What IFZA Does Well
Cost-to-value ratio for Dubai. IFZA is the most affordable way to get a legitimate Dubai-linked free zone licence with meaningful visa allocations. For solo founders and small teams, the value proposition is hard to beat.
Speed. 24-hour initial approvals and 3 to 5 day licence issuance are genuine — not marketing claims. The digital-first infrastructure shows.
Activity flexibility. Three activities included at no extra cost, from a list of 1,500+. You can add or change activities later without restarting the licence process.
Visa generosity. A flexi-desk supports up to 3 visas. Higher-tier packages go to 6 or 7 without requiring a private office. Compare this to DMCC, where a flexi-desk gives you 2 and anything more requires an office upgrade.
Remote-friendly setup. Everything except the medical test and Emirates ID biometrics can be done from outside the UAE. For international founders, this means you can have your licence before you even arrive.
Where IFZA Falls Short
Location. IFZA is at Dubai Silicon Oasis — east Dubai, 25 to 35 minutes from Downtown, 40+ minutes from Marina. If your business requires being in central Dubai daily, the commute matters. If you work remotely, it doesn't.
Brand perception. IFZA is well-known among founders and setup consultants, but less recognised among large corporate clients, institutional investors, and banks compared to DMCC or DIFC. If your business involves high-value B2B relationships where the free zone name on your letterhead matters, consider whether IFZA's perception matches your client base.
Banking reality. IFZA companies open bank accounts successfully — we see it regularly. But the Fujairah regulatory history means some bank compliance teams need extra documentation or explanation. This isn't an IFZA flaw — it's a banking perception issue — but it adds a step to the process. Prepare your banking file thoroughly and don't assume it'll be automatic. Our bank rejection guide covers the common mistakes.
No physical infrastructure. IFZA is a licensing authority with flexi-desk access, not a business park with offices, warehouses, and coworking spaces. If you need a dedicated office, meeting rooms, or warehouse facilities, you'll arrange those independently. Compare this to DSO which includes DTEC, offices, and industrial units, or Ajman which offers warehouses and port access.
Financial statement at renewal. The year-two renewal requirement for audited or reviewed financials catches founders off guard. Budget AED 3,000 to AED 6,000 for this.
Who IFZA Is Best For
- Solo founders and freelancers who want a Dubai entity at the lowest practical cost
- Service businesses (consulting, IT, marketing, design, training) with international or UAE clients
- E-commerce operators who need a licence to sell online but don't need physical space
- International entrepreneurs incorporating remotely before relocating to the UAE
- Small teams (2–6 people) who need multiple visas without paying for a private office
- Holding or invoicing structures where the entity needs to exist legally but doesn't require a prestigious address
IFZA is not the best choice if you need commodity trading infrastructure, crypto licensing, a central Dubai office address, or heavy industrial facilities.
IFZA vs the Alternatives
DMCC: AED 35,000–55,000 first year. Central Dubai (JLT). Better banking credibility. Commodity and crypto infrastructure. Choose DMCC if banking, brand, or commodities are priorities.
SHAMS (Sharjah): AED 18,000–24,000 first year with visa. Cheapest option. Sharjah address (not Dubai). Up to 6 visas on a flexi-desk. Choose SHAMS if you want the absolute lowest cost and don't need a Dubai address. Take a look at our SHAMS trade licence guide to know more.
Ajman Free Zone: AED 14,000–18,000 first year with visa. Warehouse and port access. Instalment payment plans. Choose Ajman if you're a trading business that needs physical infrastructure at a budget price. Here’s our Ajman setup guide.
DSO (Dubai Silicon Oasis): AED 35,000–45,000 first year. Tech park ecosystem with DTEC incubator, offices, and live-work community. Choose DSO if you want physical office space and a tech-focused environment in Dubai. Check out our DSO free zone guide.
Meydan Free Zone: Similar pricing to IFZA. Dubai address. Narrower activity list. Choose Meydan if IFZA doesn't support your specific activity. Check out our Meydan free zone guide.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is IFZA a legitimate Dubai free zone?
Yes. IFZA operates under a concession from the Dubai Silicon Oasis Authority, which is a Dubai government entity. Your trade licence shows a Dubai address (Dubai Silicon Oasis), and your company is a legally registered Dubai free zone entity. IFZA's original Fujairah regulatory backing occasionally causes confusion, but it has no impact on the licence's legal validity.
How much does IFZA cost in 2026?
The licence package starts at AED 12,900 (zero visas). A realistic all-in first year with one visa processed is AED 20,700 to AED 22,000 once you include the establishment card, visa processing, medical, and Emirates ID. With three visas, expect AED 32,000 to AED 36,000. These totals are before health insurance, which adds AED 600 to AED 2,500 per person per year.
How long does IFZA setup take?
Licence issuance takes 3 to 5 business days from clean document submission. IFZA issues initial approval within 24 to 48 hours. If you're adding a visa, total time from application to visa in hand is 3 to 5 weeks. The licence-only process (no visa) can be completed in under a week.
Can I open a bank account with an IFZA licence?
Yes. IFZA companies are eligible to open corporate bank accounts at any UAE bank. Some banks may require additional documentation or explanation of IFZA's regulatory structure, but well-prepared applications are approved regularly. IFZA does not provide formal banking introductions — you'll need to approach banks directly or through an advisor. We help with this as part of our bank account services.
Do I need to be in the UAE to set up an IFZA company?
Not for the licence. IFZA's setup process is fully digital — you can submit documents and receive your trade licence remotely. However, you must be physically in the UAE for the residence visa process (medical test and Emirates ID biometrics). Many founders complete the licence remotely, then travel to the UAE to finalise the visa.
What happens at IFZA renewal in year two?
The licence renewal fee is similar to the first-year package fee. However, IFZA requires submission of audited or reviewed financial statements at renewal. This is an additional cost of AED 3,000 to AED 6,000 for the accounting work. Budget for this from the start — it's mandatory and discovering it at renewal time creates unnecessary pressure.
